Polka Dot Dress Makeover

Yay! so I finished altering my dress and I really like how it turned out. I didn't have to put in a zipper like I originally thought. The fabric has more stretch than I thought. A picture of the original dress is in my Value Village Haul post.

So basically I cut off the straps, put in those boob forms in the top to give it some structure, changed the neckline, and took it in on the side seams.

LOL I'm not the greatest at sewing so I made a lot of lines with the fabric chalk and went over my stitches a few times until it was the way I liked.

I opened up the top and stuck in the foam thing and then did a messy yet effective slip stitch so that it's now a sweetheart style neckline.

I'm glad it turned out and I'm excited to style an outfit around it :)

take care,
Marisa

Oh Sweet Wonderful You

What I'm wearing:
Vest - thrifted Jacob, Dress - Suzy Shier, Sandals - American Eagle, Belt - thrifted

My boyfriend and I took a little drive on the country roads just outside of the city for something to do today. He was my wonderful photographer as always :) We really miss living back in our little hometown in Northern Ontario you don't have to drive to just get away from everyone. I have one year left in my undergrad but I am soo over Guelph. No idea what I'll do when I graduate though lol. For now I'm STILL searching for a summer job to support my clothes addiction.
Anyway, I just got this dress yesterday and I love it!! It's so soft and bright-coloured :) and you gotta love ruffles!

Value Village 50% off haul

Value Village has 50% off all used clothing and accessories days every so often so I decided to take advantage of it. I bought 2 pairs of jeans ( $4 and $3.50!), a silky scarf, a sweater vest tank top, skinny black belt, black dress with little white polka dots, and a gold colour watch.
All for less than $25.00!! It's definitely worth it to go on the half-off days. Sometimes it's not really worth it to buy stuff full price at Value Village since their pricing is a bit steep for the quality.

So I made the jeans into cut-off shorts. I'll need to poke another hole into the belt so I can wear it around my waist. The watch hopefully only needs new batteries. And I'm planning on taking in the dress, turning it into a strapless and I'll need to put in a zipper since it's not stretchy fabric.

Take care,
-Marisa

REVIEW: ShoeDazzle.com

I bought my first pair of shoes from ShoeDazzle.com from the March picks. For those of you that don't know, ShoeDazzle is like an online shoe-of-the-month club owned by Kim Kardashian. When you first join you take a little quiz so the stylists can get to know your style and then they pick out 5 shoes each month for you to choose from. If you don't want to buy a pair that month you just have to pass or you can even buy more than one pair of shoes too. And if you don't like the shoes they pick out for you you can ask for a new selection.

Price: $39.95USD (same price for all the shoes on the website, even the boots!)
Shipping: is $10 extra to ship to Canada and they take a little over 2 weeks to arrive.
In total: 51.00CAD

The shoes come in this nice box and you get a little travel bag too.

These are the ones I picked:

One problem I found with them is that the heel is REALLY slippery on floors but the rest of the sole is super grippy rubber. Kind of an interesting combo... but I'm the heel will be better once I where them more and the heel gets scratched up a little.

I got them in a size 9 since the only half size they don't have is a 9.5 (grrr). So they were a little too tight when I tried them on. But I did the ol' fill the shoes with baggies of water then pop in the freezer overnight. Worked like a charm, they fit quite nicely now. Also, since they're made of all synthetic materials they kinda make my feet sweat which is unfortunate.
So overall, I probably will order again from ShoeDazzle if there's a pair I really want. The quality is decent. I have better quality shoes than these in my closet but the ShoeDazzles are worth the price you pay.

The beginnings of my vegetable garden

Since it was nice and sunny out today I sat outside and filled my seed trays full of soil, planned out the garden, and planted the seeds so they can get a good start indoors. It's still too cold to plant right now, maybe by mid-late May I'll be able to plant. My Dad's always had a really big vegetable garden and ever since I was little I would help out. Now that I have a little apartment with a backyard I can have my own little vegetable patch :). Last year I dug out a place for the garden from the lawn and had a small garden but the weather went from super hot to raining non-stop so it wasn't the best for the plants.
This year I'm planting:
-beets
-carrots
-romaine lettuce
-buttercrunch lettuce
- peas
- green beans
-zucchini
-cucumber
-spaghetti squash
- tomatoes and cherry tomatoes
- various herbs
- bok choy
-swiss chard
-spinach

Nevermore

What I'm wearing: shoes - Quad Comfort (bought at Mark's Work Warehouse!), jeans - Garage, Blazer - Forever 21

I get a kick out of wearing E.A. Poe's creepy face on my T-shirt. lol My boyfriend bought me this at Black Market Clothing in downtown Toronto. It's this basement with vintage clothes, T-shirts with different graphics, and some jewellery and drug paraphernalia. Strange place, but there's some good finds.

REVIEW: Lush Herbalism Cleanser

I've been using Herbalism Cleanser for about 4 months so far, so I feel like I can give an accurate review on it.
What Lush cleansers are are solid preservative-free, soap-free face cleansers that remove excess oils and/or moisturize your skin. Lush has 7 different kinds of solid cleansers to suit a variety of skin types.
I chose Herbalism because my skin is oily-combination where my forehead, and cheeks are oily and my nose area gets dry. So I wanted a cleanser that would prevent acne breakouts but without drying out my skin. I don't get a lot of zits, just one or two a month.

To use this kind of cleanser you take a little bit in you hand (like the amount below) and you add a few drops of water to it to mix it into a paste. Then apply it onto your face that way. Don't add water to the container or that will make having a solid cleanser pointless because bacteria will grow in it.
Verdict: I really love this cleanser!! Within a few days I started noticing a difference in my skin, less zits, less redness and irritation (the other cleansers I was using were too harsh). And it really feels nice on the skin.. there no soap or foaming action but your skin still feels clean afterwards. I like that there is a gentle exfoliant texture to it but it's not too rough. It takes away excess oil but leave skin soft with the natural plant oils in it. Also, I've been really into using more natural cosmetic and skin care products and trying to stay away from all the nasty preservatives and chemicals in regular stuff. Just check out http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/  and you'll be amazed at the dangerous stuff in things we put on our skin. Anyways, I'll save the speech for another post haha...
So, I would purchase Herbalism again.. or I might want to try more of Lush's cleansers!

Flowers on my fingers

I did my nails last night using the nail rhinestones I bought from ebay a while back. They were only $1.30! compare that to the $10 Sally Beauty Supply sells them for ;)

I love this dark purple colour from Nicole by OPI. The dark colours are nice but it will be nice to switch it up with the bright spring colours coming up too.

Blizzard Monday

Over the weekend it was starting to look like spring... this morning it was a blizzard. How dare the weather get my hopes up! :P I looked like an idiot walking to the bus stop this morning flailing my arms to keep from falling over every few steps because there was a layer of snow on top of the sidewalk/patches of black ice. Every step was a surprise.

What I'm wearing:
tank top - Forever 21, halter top - Costa Blanca, necklace - American Eagle, jeans - Guess, sweater - Ginger G. (bought from Winners)

This week is definitely going to be a tough one, I have 2 essays for Functional Foods (I haven't written a proper essay since high school :P), a crazy biochem midterm next monday as well as a Food processing assignment, and various other tasks for my volunteer positions to complete. ugh.

Sushi date with the girls

I actually haven't worn this skirt until today because I always felt like this pencil skirt was too fancy looking for everyday, unless you work in an office. But I shortened it a bit and now it seems much more wearable.

What I'm wearing:
boots - Rocket Dog, top - Forever21, bag - Chinese Laundry, scarf - Nakimuli (on etsy.com), skirt - Costa Blanca (altered)
Unfortunately, it's still too chilly outside to wear just this light jacket :( I still need a winter coat for this weather.
For supper I went out for all-you-can-eat sushi with a few friends. Suffice to say, I got my money's worth! lol It was so delicious I can't wait to go back.
